Findings on
"Levitation in Earth's E-field" Technology
There are a number of web pages that you can visit to learn
more about the details of Mr. Brown's work. The bottom line is
that Mr. Brown claimed to have invented and demonstrated a number
of flying apperatus that had no moving parts. The devices
levitated electrictly. This is very intriguing.
The basic principle was that a charged capacitor tended to
move toward the positive plate when suffiently energized. Mr.
Brown reportedly used potential differences in the 100's of
kilovolt range. (That presents some technical challenges for
the experimenter that wishes to research this phenomenon.)

It is published that Mr. Brown
evidenced 5 criteria that affected the "lift
factor" of his devices. They are
surface area of the plates
voltage on the plates
closeness of the plates
mass of the dielectric material
dielectric constant
Everything in this list, except the mass of the dielectric,
effects the charge density on the surface of the plates. I
suspect that the mass of the dielectric was directly related to
the dielectric constant of the materials that were available to
him at that time. In general the greater the mass the greater the
break down voltage and the greater the dielectric constant. For
example, glass has more mass than air, has a greater breakdown
voltage and has a higher dielectric constant.
Everything that I have been able to find out about Mr.
Brown's experiments leads me to conclude that the greater the net
coulomb charge on his capacitors the greater the "lift
factor". I believe that there is a simple explaination for
this effect that experimenters have over looked.
